Harry Setian, 91, died peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at home. Born to the late Nishan and Mari Setian and educated in Springfield schools, Harry grew up in the Indian Orchard section of town. He was a student and graduate of the former Technical High School. He attended Fitchburg State Teachers College where he was an Epsilon Pi Tau member, awarded for high honors and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts. He later received his Master’s Degree from Westfield State College. He taught at Palmer High School for four years and then at Technical High School and then at Central High School until his retirement in 1991.
Harry was a member of the Springfield Armory, the Swift River Sportsman Club and the Masonic Lodge of Indian Orchard for over 65 years.
He was an active member of St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church all his life; a pillar of the church his father helped build in 1934. He was a dedicated servant to God in every way; a Board of Trustee member and handyman. Harry also served proudly in the Army Reserves for six years. His outside interests included woodworking, construction (he built 4 houses), hunting and camping. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed spear fishing at Charlestown, RI State Beach where he made many friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years Elizabeth (Shemligian) Setian and their two sons; Steven and his wife Lisa of Harwichport and Peter of Ludlow. He was predeceased by his daughter Sima Setian Pariseau and his grandson Dylan Pariseau in 2024, brothers; Arman, Gary, Jackie and half brother Bishop Nerses Setian. Harry also leaves his sister Lucy Tarpinian of Wilbraham and sister in law Sandy Setian of Auburn, MA, his cherished grandchildren; Christopher Setian, Taylor Setian Mayer and her husband Adam Mayer, Sophia Pariseau and adored great grandsons Tyson and Julian Mayer, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15th from 10:00-11:00AM at St. Gregory’s Armenian Apostolic Church, 135 Goodwin St., Indian Orchard followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Wilbraham Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
