Harold (Hal) R. Hartman, 87, of Wales, MA passed away unexpectedly on Sunday March 5th at Harrington Hospital.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Karen; his three children; Kenneth H. Hartman and his partner Heidi Smeltzer of Holland, Kimberly A. Hartman and her fiancé Robert S. Cole of Southwick, and Heather M. Hartman and her partner David Cooper of Wales. Harold was predeceased by his brother William Hartman and his nephews; Laurence & William Jr. Hartman, his son Harold Jr. and his first wife Joan Goetze.
Hal was born in Springfield, son of the late Neola (Drohat) and William M. Hartman. He attended Springfield schools and was a lineman for Mass Electric for many years until his accident in 1977. He owned a Mobil Station in the 50’s, was an Army veteran and a member of the Army Reserves. In addition, Hal was a member of the Wilbraham police auxiliary, a Wales town selectman & moderator, and served on many committees over the years. He was a lover of automobiles, owning many over the years. Hal enjoyed attending car shows and had an uncanny knowledge of all automobiles, muscle cars being his favorite. His family was foremost in his life, and one of his greatest joys was getting together with all of them. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Hal loved living on the Lake and enjoyed watching Mother Nature’s seasonal beauties, minus the Canada geese.
Hal’s Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 13th at 10:30 AM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham, followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Visitation will precede the Service from 9:30 – 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
