Obituary
George Robert Tracy, 87, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, September 26, 2019. Born in Springfield to the late George W. and Barbara (Snow) Tracy, he was a longtime East Longmeadow resident. He was a proud Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He met a lovely woman named Mary Brisley and they married at the Trinity Church in Springfield, MA on June 20, 1953. Together they raised a family and shared a love of music & dancing with their daughters. George was both a carpenter and millwright for the Carpenter and Millwright Union, Local # 1121 for over 25 years. He had a talent for beautifully restoring antiques. Many friends, family members & historical societies benefited from his creativity. George worked hard and was a good provider and a wellspring of guidance to growing girls. He also could turn a phrase with his sense of humor, jokes and anecdotes. Together with his brother, they built the house that would become the family home. His daughters want to thank him for creating a great place to grow up, enjoyed by family, neighbors & friends for swimming, fishing and skating parties. George also loved his garden. To the delight of all around, he grew fruit, vegetables and hybrid roses in his gardens. Every February, the family would take a trip to Florida as a vacation to escape the cold. As he always loved to say, “Follow me gang!” So we shall.

His beloved wife Mary (Brisley) Tracy predeceased George in 2016. His four daughters will lovingly miss him: Suellen Tracy-Cluett of Hampden, her children Bradley and Sanford Cluett; Deborah (and James J.) Ellingham of Roaring Branch, PA, their children Justin and Leighanne; Donna Haskins of Hampden, her daughter Tracy (and Brian) Coppadge of Williamsport, PA and Shannon (and William C.) Shaw of East Longmeadow their son Adam, sister Madeline Encalade of East Longmeadow. His brother Roger Tracy and sister Barbara Donaldson also predeceased George. Roger’s children, Roger, Roy and Scott, continue to be close family members.

Special thanks: to the Wilbraham Funeral Home for taking such good care of our precious family members over the years; to Holyoke VNA Hospice Life Care staff who are awesome; and to Sarah Mouser-thank you for sharing your gifts of caring, calming, thoughtfulness & support during a difficult time. Family & friends may gather for George’s Memorial Service with Military Honors on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham.
