George John Dabakis, 89, of Longhill Street passed away Tuesday at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Bridgeton, NJ on June 17th, 1926 to the late John and Mary (Pappis) Dabakis. He later moved to Chicopee and settled in Springfield in 1946. George was a grinding machine operator for 25 years at Package Machinery formerly of East Longmeadow. He retired in 1988. He was a communicant of St. George Church in Springfield. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Forest Park and also a member of the Chicopee Moose Lodge. He was great athlete and enjoyed all sports. George was a proud WW II U.S. Army Veteran and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Herrington) Dabakis who passed away in 1993, loving father of Suzanne Dabakis-Choquette and her husband Peter Choquette of Springfield, James J. Dabakis and his husband Stephen Justensen of Salt Lake City, UT, Krista Price and her husband David of Gresham, OR, and Pamela Small and her husband Lester of Orange Park, FL, caring brother of Greg Dabakis of Hampden, CT and Helen Stavarakis of Springfield, devoted grandfather of Wendi, Thomas, and James Sacco, Gregory Garvin, Bethany Healy, Tucker and Hannah Price, Kayliegh Harry, and Jensen and Charlotte Forkey, cherished great grandfather of Brianne D�Amours, Michael Connor, Vincent Sacco, Joshua and Nila Healy, Gabriel, Zachery, Scarlet, and Connor Harry, and he also leaves his special great great granddaughter Gabriella D�Amours. The funeral will be Saturday 11 AM at the WILBRAHAM FUNERAL HOME, 2551 Boston Road, Wilbraham, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12:30 PM at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 St. George Street, Springfield. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield. Calling hours are Friday 4-7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George�s name to the Shriners� Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104-2396.
