Retired Fire Chief of East Longmeadow, Forrest R. Goodrich, 96, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2023. Born in Springfield to the late Earl and Elizabeth (Boyle) Goodrich, he served his Country proudly as a Marine during World War II and the Korea War. A lifelong East Longmeadow resident, he was appointed to the East Longmeadow Fire Dept. in April of 1951, promoted to Lieutenant 1963, then to Fire Chief on June 25, 1968, proudly serving 23 years and 8 months until his retirement in 1992. He served as President of the Fire Chief Assn. of MA from 1988 -1989. Forrest had previously worked for the Springfield Armory and the East Longmeadow Post Office. He was a longtime member of East Longmeadow United Methodist Church. Forrest was predeceased by his beloved wife Rosina (Preissler) Goodrich in 2018. He is survived by his two sons; Robert Goodrich and his wife Kathy and Michael Goodrich, step son Peter Moore and step daughter Kim Vickery, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Forrest was also predeceased by his first wife Eleanor Goodrich. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00-6:00PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Forrest’s Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 12:00 Noon at Wilbraham Funeral Home followed by Committal with Military Honors at 2:00 PM at MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Assn., 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or Dakin Humane Society, 171 Union St., Spfld, MA 01105.
