Obituary
Former longtime Springfield resident Florence Mary (Sokolowski) Palazzo, 99, died
peacefully on Sunday, October 9, 2022 in Cape Coral, Florida. Born in Whately, MA, she was the daughter of the late Aleck and Clementine (Chanoska) Sokolowski.
Florence grew up in Westfield, MA. She contributed to the war effort by working in the Springfield Armory. She later held production positions with H. L. Handy and Absorbine Jr. She met Anthony (Tony) Palazzo, her love of a lifetime, at a New Year’s Eve party in 1943. They shared 63 wonderful years together until his passing in 2008.
Florence is survived by her children; son Robert Palazzo of St Cloud, FL, daughter Patricia Smith and husband Donald of Fort Myers, FL, and son Michael Palazzo and wife Carla of Belchertown; her grandchildren, Martylee Caramante and husband Bruce of East Longmeadow, Tracey Clough and husband Wilfred Jr of Northfield, Bobbie Jo Ralph of Georgia, Tracey Corliss Scribner of Ludlow, David Castaldi of Schenectady, NY, Laurie Castaldi of Scotia, NY, Gina Palazzo and partner Nick Piechota of Palmer; her Great Grandchildren, Danielle, Isabella, Gabriel and Mia Caramante, Francesca Caramante Pitts and husband Trevor, Emily and Connor Clough, Shane Castaldi, Teigan Goyette; and her Great Great Grandchild, Josiah Pitts.
Florence was a beautiful, kind, and gentle person. Always an endearing smile, a warm compliment, a loving touch. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, exercising at the Y, camping in Rhode Island and spending quality time with family and friends. Her amazing vitality was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 16th from 3:00-5:00PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Florence’s Graveside Service will be held on Monday at 11:00AM at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker St., Springfield. If you wish to say a final goodbye before going to the cemetery, you may do so at 10AM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cure Alzheimers Fund
