Obituary
Father Daniel Joseph Boyle, 69, died peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at home. Born in Springfield to the late Joseph and Mary (Manning) Boyle, he was a 1969 graduate of The High School of Commerce. He earned his Bachelors’ Degree in 1973 from North Adams State College and graduated from Mt. St. Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD in 1978. Fr. Dan was ordained on June 17, 1978 by Bishop Joseph Maguire in his home parish, Sacred Heart Church, Springfield. He began his career as an assistant at Holy Cross Church, St. Mary’s Church and Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield. He served as Chaplain at Mercy Hospital, and was a member of the Diocesan Vocation Advisory Committee and served as Dean at the Northern Berkshire Deanery. He furthered his studies at North American College in Rome. He served as Administrator for Our Lady of Hope Church, Springfield and as Pastor at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Notre Dame Church and St. Stanislaus Parish in Adams. He then served as Pastor at St. Cecilia Church in Wilbraham from July of 2014 until his retirement in July of 2020, after 42 years in the priesthood. He is survived by his brother Dr. Joseph M. Boyle of Wilbraham, sister in law Rose Boyle of Springfield, seven nieces and nephews: Evan, Keagan, Casey, Cullen, Kathryn, Margaret and Martin Boyle. In addition to his parents, Fr. Dan was also predeceased by his brother; The Honorable William J. Boyle, 1st Justice of Hampden County and his aunt; Sr. Joan Manning, SP. Fr. Dan will Lie in State on Monday, December 21st at St. Cecilia Church beginning at 2:00 PM and concluding with a Prayer Service at 5:00 PM. His Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 22nd at 11:00 AM in St. Cecilia Church followed by burial in St Michael’s Cemetery. Due to Covid restrictions, visitors are required to wear a mask, practice social distancing and the church must limit the number of visitors during the visitation and the Mass. Parishioners and friends may view the Funeral Mass later that evening by visiting www.saintceciliawilbraham.org .  Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Cecilia Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham or to Sisters of Providence (in memory of Sr. Joan Manning), 5 Gamelin St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
