Longtime Springfield resident Estelle (Wood) Popec, 98, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Cranston, RI to the late Henry and Alice (Fuller) Wood, she graduated from Evangeline Booth Hospital in Boston as an LPN. She worked for many years at Wesson Women�s Hospital in Springfield. She was active in the Wilbraham Senior Center Knitting Club and enjoyed the Red Hats of Wilbraham. To cherish her memory, Estelle leaves two sons; Stephen Popec and his wife Darlene of Ware, Leon Popec and his wife Tammy of Springfield, daughter Alice Bichard and her fianc� Jim McHugh of Springfield and her son in law James Gormley of Upton, MA, her special nephew Joseph Pumiglia, grandchildren; Colleen, Shannon, Sean, Jessica, Tara, Kyle and Tyler, seven great grandchildren and several nieces. She also leaves her two cats in care of her daughter. She was predeceased by her beloved daughter Mary Ann Gormley and eight brothers and sisters. She was very proud of her Rhode Island roots. Beloved and cherished by many, she will be remembered for her laughter, quick wit and knowing smile! The family would like to thank Dr. Neal Lakritz and staff for many years of dedicated care and recently, the staff at Redstone Rehabilitation, Kensington Unit, for the exemplary regard our mother received. A Celebration of Estelle�s Life will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 1:00 pm at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Visitation will precede the Service at the funeral home from 11:00 am � 1:00 pm.
