Obituary

Edward (Eddie) J. Streeter, 85, passed away peacefully at Baystate Medical Center early on Friday, October 16, almost three months to the day after losing the love of his life, Donna L. Streeter. Born in Springfield, MA on June 20, 1941, Eddie was the son of the late Norman and Martha (Patelle) Streeter. Eddie moved to Wilbraham, MA in 1968 where he and Donna raised their two sons, Stephen (Wilbraham, MA) and Mark (Wellesley, MA, wife Joan Streeter). The consummate salesman, Eddie started his professional career and rose to a store management position with Stop & Shop before holding distributions jobs with Pepperidge Farms and Frito Lay (his house was always popular with kids on Halloween). In the 1980’s, he decided to buy a convenience store in Ludlow, MA, which became a family affair. His son Mark spent so much time at the store that he decided to rename it “Mark’s Variety”. Eventually the store was sold and, after a brief period where he taught Mark and friends at driving school, Eddie went back to the distribution business with Voortman Cookies. A heart attack and then a stroke slowed him down in his 50s, but he never lost his love for playing cards with family and friends. He enjoyed watching his four grandchildren grow and thrive. He rarely missed a recital, sacrament, or graduation during their younger years. Edward is survived by his sons as noted, grandchildren Megan (New York, NY), Mark Jr (South Boston, MA), Katherine (Katie), and William, sister Bridget Doyle, and several nieces and nephews. He was an active member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Wilbraham for over 57 years, including dozens of years serving in the Knights of Columbus. Edward is also a Veteran, having served in the National Guard from 1960-1963. His family is hosting a calling hour on Tuesday, October 27, at 9:45am at St. Cecilia Church (42 Main Street, Wilbraham, MA) followed by a funeral mass at 11am. Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery (421 Tinkham Road, Springfield) will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital online at stjude.org.
