Obituary

James M. Leone, 67, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children. Jamie was born in Bronx, NY; son of the late Martha (Arnone) Leone and Dr. Salvatore Leone. A U.S. Army veteran, Jamie served as a paramedic in the Special Forces/Green Berets. He began his education at UMass - Amherst (1982 – 1986) and earned his MD from UMass Medical School in Worcester (1986 – 1990). After completing his residency at Baystate Medical Center, he worked as an Emergency Room Physician at Mercy Hospital for several years. In 1996, he joined Hampden County Medical Group as an Internal Medicine physician / partner. Jamie treated his patients with knowledge and compassion until his retirement in 2008. He was one of the few doctors who made house calls, day or night. Jamie will be most remembered for his humble, kind and generous spirit, his sense of humor, and his willingness to go out of his way to help everyone he could. Jamie was a man of many talents, including being able to play piano by ear. He loved music and created his own beautiful piano compositions. Most significantly, he will be remembered for his lively faith in Jesus Christ and manifesting His Spirit in the way he lived his life. Despite his illness, Jamie was smiling and joking around until the end. He was a member of St. Cecilia Parish. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 36 years Donna (Fanelli) Leone, and their three devoted children; Michael, Nina, and James. He is survived by his father, Dr. Salvatore Leone, and siblings Danielle Brown (Jesse), Sally Atari, Martha Liuzzi (John), Carol Maybrook (Micky), Matthew Leone, Kerri Ann Hoyt (Charlie), Thomas Leone (Emily) and Col.
