Dr. Donald Patrick Conway, MD, MBA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7th in Hanover, NH. Don was born in Springfield on April 10th, 1948, to Donald and Eileen (Maloney) Conway. He played football and hockey at Cathedral High School, and attended the College of the Holy Cross, graduating in 1970. He then went on to earn an MBA from Dartmouth's Amos Tuck Business School, graduating in the class of 1972. In 1978 Don moved to Chicago, where he would spend the next twenty-plus years of his life. He worked at the Chicago Board of Trade before enrolling in medical school at Rush University, graduating with an MD in 1990. Don had a long and successful career as a pharmaceutical executive. His work for companies such as Aventis, Pfizer and Abbott Laboratories focused on Epidemiology and Health Outcomes Research, and he helped establish the Dept. of Technology Management for the American Medical Association. After retiring from pharmaceuticals Don proudly returned to his alma mater, Tuck at Dartmouth, as the Director of Healthcare Initiatives, guiding ambitious graduate students in both business and medicine. Don cared passionately about education and the pursuit of knowledge and had a story or fact to share for every topic. His career took him all over the globe and he loved to bring along his family whenever possible. Don was an avid photographer and his many trips were extensively documented. Around any baby, he would quack like Donald Duck, always eliciting a smile. Don loved croissants, lattes and the four major Boston sports teams. Don's favorite place to visit was Nantucket, where he would sun tan without sunscreen to his heart's content. In his last few years, he was affectionately known as 'Doc' to the dedicated and patient staff of Hanover Terrace Health and Rehabilitation Center, whose compassionate care made him exponentially more comfortable. The family would like to share their deepest gratitude for the wonderful staff at Hanover Terrace. Don is survived by his five children, Burton Reed Conway; Whitney Christopher Conway (Mary); Douglas Wastcoat Conway; Leigh Elizabeth Sweisford (Dan); and Anne Tatham Conway; three grandchildren, Clark Alexander Conway, Jude Burton Conway, and Henry Giles; and three siblings, Katherine Conway, Christine Nicholson (Paul), and Kevin Conway (Jen); and several dear nieces and nephews. Donald’s Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11AM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd, Wilbraham.
