Deborah Jean Anderson, 72, died peacefully on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at home. Born in Winchester, MA, she was once the Director of Public Relations of PBS station WGBY in Springfield, MA and a freelance writer. Deborah attended Boston University and Hampshire College.
Deb ‘s lifelong passion was skiing. She went on annual pilgrimages to France to ski Val Thorens and couldn’t wait to spend time with her skiing friends. If she couldn’t ski downhill, she’d cross-country ski the hills and fields of Southwick. In warmer months, she turned to cycling, kayaking, and skating.
She loved to travel and was a born wanderer. “Where’s Deb?” was the most heard refrain on trips. Deb was known for her independent spirit and love of exploring new things wherever she went.
Deborah was also an accomplished artist who worked in many mediums. She was a potter, an expert in all needlecrafts, and she had a wonderful knack for decorating. She filled her apartment with all the quirky art, lace, and pottery she loved.
An avid reader and talented writer, Deb read and reread her favorite authors. She loved Georgette Hyer, a romance novelist, and Charles Dickens. She loved their sense of humor.
Deborah was predeceased by her mother Freda (Shaw) Anderson. She will be dearly missed by her father Eric W. Anderson of Wilbraham, sisters; Karen Anderson and her husband Robert Gagnier of Wilbraham, Tricia Kennedy and her husband Robert of Mill Spring, NC, and Lesa Anderson and her husband Ed Chaves of Raynham, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews. At Deborah’s request, services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Wilbraham Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
