Carolyn G. Whipple, longtime Hampden resident, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 11, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Springfield, MA to the late William Vernon and Mae (Harpin) Green.
She leaves behind her two sons, Jim and his wife Gina of Longmeadow, MA and David and his wife Jeannie of South Hadley, MA. Carolyn was predeceased by her husband Jim. They were married for 61 years before his passing. She was also predeceased by her daughter Lynn Ann Whipple and her sister Verna Caney.
Carolyn worked at Whip's Sporting Goods for 30 years, where customers still ask about her. She was known for baking the best chocolate chip cookies. Carolyn's greatest joy in life was raising her family with Jim and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. She enjoyed going to their sporting events and was an avid Red Sox fan.
She leaves 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren: Jennifer (Whipple) House, her husband Tim, and daughters Emerson, Leah and Harper of Okemos, MI; Matthew Whipple and son Michael of Silver Spring, MD; Daniel Whipple, his wife Tyler and daughter Lily of Danvers, MA; and Laura (Whipple) Anderson, husband Tim and sons Benjamin and Thomas of Belchertown, MA. Carolyn also leaves behind her best friend of over 65 years, Elaine Moore of East Longmeadow, MA; Elaine's family; and Jim and Carolyn's niece, Karlene Kadra, of Eastham, MA.
The family would like to thank Dr. Darren O'Neill of Enfield Medical Associates for his years of compassionate care.
There will be a private family burial. A special thank you to Lori Callahan of Wilbraham Funeral Home for her love and support in helping Carolyn's family at this difficult time.
