Carolyn H. (Chunglo) Zawacki

Longtime Wilbraham resident Carolyn H. Zawacki, 78, died peacefully on Friday, February 26, 2016. Born in Springfield to the late Michael and Sophia (Jedrykowski) Chunglo, she was a graduate of Hopkins Academy in Hadley and Bay Path Jr. College in Longmeadow. Carolyn served proudly in the US Naval Reserves from 1958 � 1962. She worked as an Administrative Asst. at Baystate Medical Center and previously was the secretary to the Wilbraham Chief of Police for 10 years. Active in her church and community, Carolyn was a communicant of St. Cecilia�s Church in Wilbraham, their Women�s Club, Wilbraham Women�s Club, Red Hats of Wilbraham, Pioneer Valley Navy WAVES Unit, Patriot Chapter Gold Star Wives and was appointed Secretary of the Wilbraham Democratic Town Committee and was a member of the Polish Junior League. In 2012, Carolyn moved to Lincoln, CA to be closer to her children. She was predeceased by her husband Henry B. Zawacki in 1967. She is survived by her two children Hal B. Zawacki and his wife Carrie and Terri A. Shinas and her husband Athanasios, seven beloved grandchildren; Kailei, Sophia, Michalis, Henry, Zoe, Enna and Sonora, one sister, Florence Palmquist, her niece Lanette Palmquist and her special family Nicholas and Marie Spellman. In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by her siblings; Lewis Chunglo and Mary Ann Chunglo. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18 from 3-7 PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Carolyn�s Funeral will be Saturday, March 19 at 8AM from the funeral home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9AM at St. Cecilia�s Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham. Burial will follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Hadley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Henry B. Zawacki Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Hopkins Academy Trustees, 131 Russell St., Hadley, MA 01035 or to the Survival Center, 240 Main St., Indian Orchard, MA 01151.
