Obituary
Caleb Anthony Hayward III, age 96, of East Longmeadow, MA passed away on October 21, 2021. Cal was born in New Bedford, MA to the late Caleb Anthony Hayward Jr and Beatrice Milliken (Burt) Hayward. He was the grandson of the late Henry Proctor Burt and Lucy Chase Milliken Burt, and Caleb A. Hayward Sr and Marion Smith Hayward. His ancestors can be traced back to the Mayflower.

Cal attended New Bedford High School, Phillips Academy, Northeastern University and graduated from Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in 1948. Early in his life, Cal worked in administration for the US Air Force as a civilian. He worked for 34 years for Exxon Mobil in their accounting department. This career took him across the country from Lexington, MA to Rye, NY, Baltimore, MD and finally to Kingwood, Texas. His second and most enjoyable career was a retail salesperson of men's clothing, a job where he saw much success. He loved Texas best of all, especially the hot climate. Cal spent all his spare time at the country club pool, socializing with friends. In his later years, he returned to Massachusetts to be closer to family. Cal was a quiet man who loved people and showed much gratitude and kindness to others with his impeccable manners and joyful grin.

Cal was predeceased by his sister Lucille and brother in law Frank Webber of Marstons Mills, MA and his sister Harriet and brother in law Craig Baker of Newport, Rl. Cal leaves six caring nieces and nephews; Rich and Carolyn Webber of Hampden, MA, Elizabeth and Stephen Fleury of Richford, VT, Stevens Baker, Doug and Heather H. Baker, and Heather R. Baker all of Newport, Rl and Debbie and Peter Lussier of Swansea, MA. Cal leaves dear friends Pat and Weldon Ware of Kingwood, TX and 10 great nieces and nephews.

Cal lived at the Reserve of East Longmeadow from its founding in 2014. His family has much appreciation for the staff and their considerate care. They also are thankful for the excellent care Cal received from Dr. Glenn Genest.

A Graveside Service is scheduled in Cal’s hometown of New Bedford, MA at Rural Cemetery on October 27, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
