Burton Whitaker Springer, 86, passed away Monday at Life Care Center of Wilbraham. Born in Fryeburg, Maine to the late Hazel (Whitaker) and Wilfred Springer, he lived in Wilbraham for nearly 50 years. Burton graduated from Portland High School in 1946 then served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in Korea from July 1946 � November 1947. After attending Gray�s Business College, he began his career in heavy truck sales as a salesman and went on to become Sales Manager at Mutual Ford, and later, Airport Truck Center. He was a member of the Elks Club. Burton was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Louise (Strout) Springer; two brothers, Wilfred (Bud) and Herman and two sisters, Dorothy Martin and Sally Williams. He leaves his loving children, Gayle Goral and her husband Stephen of Chicopee, Holly Baglin of Vernon, CT, Gregory Springer and his wife Karen of Crossville, TN, Dana Springer and his wife Rita of Feeding Hills and Sonda Parker and her husband Steve of Ellington, CT; his adored grandchildren, Hillarie, Rebecca and her husband Matt, Karen, Michael, Patrick, Kate and her husband Josh, Cody, Emily and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Austin, Dakota and Lillia. Burton also leaves his sister Olive Miller of Gray, ME and his best friend of 81 years, Gene Carr of Portland, ME. The funeral will be 11:30AM, Friday, August 22nd, at the Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham, with burial to follow at Adams Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service Friday from 10-11:30AM. The family would like to thank the staff at Palmer Dialysis Center and Life Care Center for the care and comfort they gave to Burton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104-2396.
