Barbara A. Speight

October 28, 1935 — February 8, 2025

Barbara Ann Speight, 89, died peacefully on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Newton, MA to the late James and Anna (Johnson) Lynch, she was a longtime East Longmeadow resident. Barbara was a graduate of Lake Erie College and was a teacher in the Boston and Newton public schools for many years. She was a faithful communicant of St. Michael’s Church in East Longmeadow and was an avid Bridge player. In addition to her parents, Barbara was also predeceased by her beloved husband William L. Speight in 2008, her two brothers; Paul J. Lynch and James Lynch and her nephew PJ Lynch. She will be sadly missed by her two devoted children; Mark Speight and his wife Wipada of Springfield and Kari Nunes and her husband Filipe of Somers, CT, her niece Lee Bloniasz and her seven cherished grandchildren; Annabella, Leo and Ian Nunes, Miguel, Marco, Maria and Janjaao Speight. Family and friends may meet for Barbara’s Funeral Mass on Friday, February 14th at 11:30 AM at St. Michael’s Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hampden. Wilbraham Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics, 512 Forest Dr., Marlborough, MA 01752 or to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1640, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
