Barbara May Makrianis passed away on March 20 at 93 years of age.
Born in Springfield on April 8, 1932, she was the only child of William and Sophia (Lukmin) Butman. Barbara was raised in Springfield and lived in Ludlow, Agawam and Westfield before settling in Chicopee 30 years ago.
Barbara worked in the office of Martin Millwork for many years. She attended Trinity Church in Springfield. As a young woman she learned to fly an airplane. She loved to fish and was a committed advocate for clean water, even taking samples from local streams and rivers for analysis. She was a qualified marksman and honed her shooting skills practicing with the Monson and State Police Departments. Barbara was an enthusiastic Red Sox fan and enjoyed trips to Quebec, especially the historic neighborhood of Old Quebec.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her husband George N. Makrianis and son George W. Makrianis. She will be missed by her loving daughter Sue Makrianis of Chicopee, son Nick Makrianis of Chicopee; and her beloved grandchildren.
Barbara, her husband George N. and her son George W. Makrianis will be laid to rest together at MA Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Family and friends may attend their committal service on Wednesday, April 29th at 9:00AM. Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
