Babbette O. Laberge, 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Joseph and Lillian (Ordway) Fagnan, she was a longtime Wilbraham resident. She married her husband Charles in 1951 and they were married 68 years before his passing in 2019.
A graduate of Elliot Community Hospital School of Nursing in Keene, NH, she worked as a Registered Nurse at the former Wing Memorial Hospital and Shriners’ Hospital for Children for many years. A faithful communicant of St. Cecilia Church, she was a CCD teacher teaching First Communion classes, Eucharistic Minister, funeral server and a member of the St. Cecilia Women’s Club for more than 60 years. She received the “Our Lady of Good Counsel” award for her many years of service. She was a volunteer at the former Wingate Nursing Home for more than 28 years and was named “Volunteer of the Month” by the Springfield Newspaper for her dedication. Wilbraham Council on Aging was also the recipient of her volunteering.
In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, collecting Hummels, completing jigsaw puzzles, and watching her birds while listening to the Boston Pops. She had a lifelong love of dogs and animals, finding great joy and companionship in their presence. She never missed a Notre Dame football game on TV. Two of her favorite trips were to Alaska to visit her niece Carol and family and to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico with her treasured husband Charlie, the ultimate scouter.
In addition to her parents, Babbette was also predeceased by her beloved husband Charles F. Laberge, her son Thomas F. Laberge, brother Frank Fagnan, sister Rosemary Barton, son in law Mark Chevrier and her granddaughter Mia Laberge. She will be dearly missed by her devoted daughter Paula L. Chevrier of Plymouth, MA, four grandchildren; David, Lisa, Maslin and Marly and six cherished great grandchildren; Lenora, James, Owen, Brianne, Lily and Vera in addition to several nieces and nephews and their families.
Family and friends may meet for Babbette’s Funeral Mass on Friday, September 11th at 10:30 AM at St. Cecilia Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham. Family will greet guests in the Rotunda of the church from 10AM until the start of the Mass. A private family burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hinsdale, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brookhaven Hospice, 59 Interstate Dr. Ste 5, West Springfield, MA 01089 or Keystone Commons Resident Activity Fund, 460 West St, Ludlow, MA 01056.
