Antonio “Tony” Monteiro, Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Ludlow on January 2, 1941 to the late Antonio and Teresa (Natario) Monteiro. He was a Supervisor at Springfield Wire for 28 years, then retired from Holyoke Medical Center after 10 years of service. One of Tony’s greatest accomplishments was starting the first girl’s soccer league in the area, the Chicopee Warriors, in 1976. Tony enjoyed playing golf with his “golfing buddies,” taking care of his lawn and mostly, spending time with his family. He is survived by his sons; Tony Monteiro and his wife Donna of Montgomery, MA, Ronald DeSellier and his wife Michelle of Ludlow, four daughters; Luisa Pagnoni of Chicopee, Lori Charette and her husband Joe of Springfield, Sue Butler and her husband Bowdie of Kalona, IA, Patty Muir and her husband Dave of Belchertown, two sisters; Mary Coelho and Zora Goncalves, both of Ludlow, sister in law Simone Monteiro of Ludlow, 12 cherished grandchildren; Jackie, Mike, Sara, Ryan, Alyssa, Chelsey, Jennifer, Justin, Shauna, Tyler, Tony and Adam and eight great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tony was also predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Dolores in 2016, his brother Armand Monteiro, sister Luisa Monteiro and son David DeSellier. Tony’s Funeral Service will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Wilbraham Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
