Andy Weickert�died peacefully at home on Jan. 1, 2016. He was born on Sept. 22, 1934 and emigrated from Zwickau, Germany to this country at the age of 12. He�and his sister, Rya�lived with their aunt and uncle in Sea Cliff, L.I. Andy graduated from Lehigh University and Adelphi�University School of Social Work. He chose a career in Social Work and worked tirelessly on behalf of mentally challenged individuals for over 40 years. In 2011 he was the first recipient in New York State to receive the NYSARC�Inc. Guardianship Recognition and Service Award. Andy was a lifelong musician and loved playing his violin in community orchestras, as well as chamber music groups. Among his many outdoor activities such as hiking, sailing and skiing, he especially enjoyed a friendly game of tennis and played weekly until very recently. In 2013, Andy and his wife Ann relocated to Loomis Lakeside at Reeds Landing where he quickly participated in many various resident activities including performing in 4 resident written and produced plays. His last performance was in November where he portrayed Victor Borge�delivering his famous punctuation of grammar monologue complete with appropriate sounds and gestures. He was also a member of the Old Post Orchestra. Andy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann (Regell) Weickert, daughter Laura Weickert�of Morrisville, VT, his sister Rya�Zobel�of Charlestown, MA cousin Andrea Kihlstedt�of the Bronx and Joan Ellwsorth�of CT.
