Alice L. (Veach) Mitchell

Alice L. (Veach) Mitchell, age 88, died peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Life Care Center of Wilbraham. A long time Springfield and Wilbraham resident, she was born to the late Charles and Alice (Gelder)Veach. She was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She received her Registered Nursing degree from Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from American International College, and graduated from Our Lady of the Elms College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She worked as a Nursing Supervisor at Monson Developmental Center for many years. In 1989 she was recognized as the Massachusetts Nurse of the Year. Her husband, William H. Mitchell, predeceased Alice in 2002. She is survived by her three daughters, Deborah Devine and her husband John of Springfield, Heather Johnson and her husband Clarion Ellis II of Chevy Chase MD, Cheryl Somarriba of Gaithersburg, MD and five grandchildren; Gregory Devine and his wife Lynelle, Emily Bain and her husband Geoff, Clarion Johnson III, Sarah Johnson and Stephanie Somarriba and two great grandchildren with three more expected next spring. Alice�s Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October15th at 12:00 Noon at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. An hour of visitation will precede the Funeral Service from 11:00 � 12:00 Noon at Wilbraham Funeral Home.
