T. Jean Franklin, age 90, passed away on Monday, January 6th at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born and raised in Wilbraham and died in the same home she was raised in which brought her much comfort. A graduate of Classical High School in Springfield, Jean held many secretarial positions in her lifetime. She was best known for her volunteerism and organ and keyboard playing. For a time she played the organ for the Springfield College gymnastic team and would often travel to the meets. In addition, she played the organ for over 20 years at Wingate Nursing Home for religious services and sing-alongs with the residents. A longtime member of Grace Union Church, she enjoyed working in their gift shop until she was unable due to failing health. Jean was predeceased by her husband Louis W. Franklin in 2007. She is survived by her daughter Rennie Maddux and her family, Bill, Nina and Chappell of South Carolina, cousin Pam Beane of Wilbraham, sister and brother in law Cindy and Denny Smith of Wilbraham, nephew Eric Smith and his family Linda and Brianna of Springfield, and her nephew Brian Smith who lived with her, and as an RN, was able to see her through her toughest times. She also leaves Brian’s children, Maggie and Wesley Smith of Vermont, as well as a lifetime of wonderful friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 11th at 11:00 AM at Grace Union Church followed by a luncheon at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Union Church, 10 Chapel St., Wilbraham, MA 01095.
