Longtime Wilbraham resident Robert Guion Kasten, 73, passed away peacefully in the arms of loved ones on Nov. 20, 2019. Born in New York City, he was the son of John G. Kasten and Ruth C. Martin. He was a graduate of Needham High School and Springfield College, where he participated in gymnastics, band and choral groups. After serving in the U. S. Navy, Rob became a manufacturers’ representative for several industries and eventually established his own firm, representing HVAC and plumbing supply companies. He was an active member of Grace Union Church, and a friend of Christ the King – Epiphany Church. His interests and joys in this life were renewable energy, trees, gardening, singing, sailing, camping, skiing, hiking; and near the end of his life, walking the hiking trails in town, particularly at Fountain Park, where he delighted in greeting the many dogs that shared his passion. This beloved husband and father leaves his wife of 51 years, Virginia (Brooks) Kasten; three daughters: Lora Kasten, Amy Armstrong (Glenn), and Jody Barrett (Jeramie); sister Jean McDonald; brother Garry Kasten (Janet); grandchildren Madison, Daisy and Aidan McCall, Jayden Hinkle and Lexi Barrett; his in-laws: Connie Richmond (James), Robert Brooks (Cindy Gagnon) and aunt Marion Waleryszak; and cherished nieces, nephews and cousins, particularly his Aussie mate, John Pavy. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 29th from 4 -7 PM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Family and friends may meet for Rob’s Memorial Service on Saturday, November 30th at 11 AM at Grace Union Church, 10 Chapel St., Wilbraham. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
