The Loss of Her Quick Smile Leaves a Hole in the World

Janet Baur (Jacobs) Gagnon, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at her home in Springfield, MA with her devoted husband Fred, and their oldest son, Vance, at her side.  Born in Denver, CO, she has been a Springfield resident since 2009, coming from Doylestown, PA and Vienna, VA.  The youngest daughter of John and Betty Lee (Lyons) Jacobs, she and her siblings grew up in Colorado with a love of the outdoors and the environment.  In the summers they would go fishing for rainbow trout and go hiking throughout the Rockies.  She was a good student and loved history, the Arts and Humanities, and enjoyed traveling with her mother to England and France.  After graduating from the University of Denver, she moved east where she met Fred.  She persevered through numerous health challenges throughout her life, and raised 3 sons.  She was active in the United Methodist Church in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts and loved to share her faith and character and the good news of Christianity with others.  She had a rare compassion and was concerned with justice for those less fortunate and concerned with environmental and wildlife protection.  She liked to laugh and smile and appreciate life's small pleasures from music to art to dancing.  Janet was a member of the American Assn. of University Women, East Longmeadow United Methodist Church, and United Methodist Women. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 47 years Fred Gagnon, their children; Vance Gagnon of Springfield, Aaron Gagnon and his wife Ginny of Chantilly, VA and Daniel Gagnon and his wife Tiffany and their children Dacey and Lucas, all of Colorado Springs, CO, her brother John Jacobs of Fernandina Beach, FL and sister Lee Carlin of Boulder, CO.  A Memorial Service for Janet will be held on January 13th at 2:00pm at The East Longmeadow United Methodist Church, 215 Somers Rd., East Longmeadow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heifer International , Doctors Without Borders or World Wildlife Fund .
