Edith “Elaine” (Grant) Forrest, age 86, died peacefully on July 16. Born in Bernardston, MA she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lillian (Widdison) Grant.
Elaine was an accomplished pianist and organist who accompanied her father for many years on his regular WHAI gospel music radio program in Greenfield as well as at church services in Bernardston. She also accompanied her husband Bill in numerous variety shows in Massachusetts and then in the Winter Haven area of Florida in her later years. She was also a professional artist and avid sports fan. However, her family and faith in Jesus Christ were always her greatest passion and center of her life. Her life motto was “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phil. 4:13) Elaine was also widely known for her special gift of hospitality – making everyone feel welcomed, valued and loved in her home.
She was predeceased by her sons, Kenneth (2003) and Thomas (2012) and her husband William L. Forrest (2010). She is survived by her seven children: Sean, Michael, Larry, Wendy, David, Stephen, and William, Jr. She is also survived by her brother Charles Grant, 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by 3 sisters: Lillian Fisher, Sylvia Curtis and Patricia Lynde.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 23 from 4-7 pm at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Funeral will be Wednesday, July 24 at 10 am from Wilbraham Funeral Home to a Mass at 11 am at Christ the King Church, 41 Warsaw Ave., Ludlow. Burial will follow in Baptist Village Cemetery, East Longmeadow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haiti180 (Haiti180.com).
