Edward Thomas Speight, 88, died peacefully on August 3, 2018. Born in Springfield to the late Leo and Catherine (Sheehan) Speight, he was a lifelong East Longmeadow resident. He graduated from Cathedral High School and attended St. Michael’s College and was a member of their Alumni Assn. In 1953 he graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston and joined his father Leo in the family business. A local builder and developer, he owned and operated Ed Speight and Co. since 1968, building hundreds of homes in East Longmeadow and surrounding communities. Ed belonged to the East Longmeadow Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and Jaycees and was a member of the Western MA Homebuilders Assn. for over 50 years. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Judith M. (Buckley) Speight in 2017 and his brother William L. Speight in 2008. He will be greatly missed by his three sons; Thomas B. Speight of Palmer, Michael E. Speight of East Longmeadow and John F. Speight of Tempe, AZ, two sisters in law; Barbara Speight of East Longmeadow and Dorothy Simonds of Hampden, two brothers in law; James Buckley of Wilbraham and Edward Buckley of East Longmeadow, three nieces; Kari Nunes, Rachel Buckley and Sarah Miller, nephew Mark Speight and many cousins, friends and longtime business associates. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7pm at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. Family and friends may meet for Ed’s Funeral Mass on Friday at 10:00 am at St. Michael’s Church followed by burial in Greenlawn Cemetery.
