Charles T. Wright, 88, of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, died peacefully on August 13, 2019. He was born January 14, 1931, in Sewickley, PA, son of the late Edna and Willard Nelson Wright. He was the youngest of 4 siblings. He was a Private in the 10th Infantry, Pennsylvania State Guard during WWII from Sept 1945 until May 1946 when it was disbanded. He then joined the U.S. Army Air Corp in January 1947 and was therefore a charter member of the U.S. Air Force in Sep 1947 when it became a separate service, and he served as a Clerk at Scott Air Force Base until being discharged in Jan 1950. Not content with only serving in three branches of service, he joined the U.S. Navy in Dec 1950 and served as a Submariner through the Korean War, earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in Oct 1954 and made his way to Springfield, MA, attended and graduated from Tech High School in 1956 and attended UMass and WNEU. Charles worked in the Trucking industry for 30 years, is also a Mason and many knew him from his years of keeping strong and staying fit at the gyms of the Springfield YMCA and Longmeadow Jewish Community Center. In retirement he loved his family, traveling far & wide with his wife, children and grandchildren, joining them in adventures to the beach, mountains and far off states and countries. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marian Jean (St. Cyr) Wright, his three sons and daughters-in-law: Daniel and Sandy Wright of Deland, FL; John and Andrea Wright of Knoxville, TN; Tim and Heidi Wright of Westborough, MA, and their nine grandchildren: Esther, Samuel, Joshua, Jonathan, Susannah, Helena, Matthew, Nathan & Elisabeth, and two great-grandchildren: Van and Brynn. Military honors will be held Fri Aug 23, 2019 at 11 am at the MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. The Wilbraham Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
