Anthony J. MatejczykAugust 2, 1936 ~ January 12, 2018 (age 81)
Anthony J. Matejczyk, formerly of Framingham, died peacefully at his home in Thorndike on January 12, surrounded by his family. Tony was the beloved husband of 50 years to Mary Pat (Murnane), the loving father of Anthony (Alison) of Lower Gwynedd, PA; Elizabeth Alcock (Richard) of Somerville, MA; Michael (Allison) of Shrewsbury, NJ; and three grandchildren, Robert, Maggie, and Julia. He is also survived by in-laws, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He had special relationships with each of his children and grandchildren and delighted in spending time with them at their homes and his own.
A graduate of American International College, Tony was a journalist for the Springfield Union and The Boston Herald, and later worked as a public relations executive for Verizon in Boston. After retirement, he enjoyed a variety of opportunities including leading tours to Europe for a Boston travel club, driving and narrating for Old Town Trolley in Boston, and singing with the Young at Heart Chorus in many parts of the world. In addition, he and Mary Pat traveled extensively both in the US and abroad.
Tony was an enormous fan of both crossword and jigsaw puzzles, Boston sports, and spicy foods. He will be remembered with great love for his devotion to his family, his magnetic personality, his unique sense of humor, and his kindness to all.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 8:30 – 10:30 AM at Wilbraham Funeral Home, 2551 Boston Rd., Wilbraham. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM at St Cecilia’s Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham.
